CRC Executive Board (Spring 2011-Winter 2012) Here's a quick look at the awesome people who currently run our dorm:
President Fritz Burgher (contact) Duties: presides over exec and All-College Meetings, represents CRC on the Residential College Board and during university events, oversees CRC activities, ensures officers fulfill their responsibilities, organizes CRC elections.
Guten Tag! My name is Fritz Burgher and I am the President of the
incredible Communications Residential College here at Northwestern
University. A proud member of the class of 2014, I’m double
majoring in journalism and political science. I worshipped
Peter Jennings growing up and when he died in 2005, I promised myself I
would follow in his footsteps and continue his legacy.
Raised in Amana, Iowa, I was fortunate to come from a small town where I knew practically everyone in my village and my high school - something I was concerned I would be unable to find in college. However CRC provided me with a tight-knit community and I could not be happier living here. I can be best described as a real-life Disney character for my energetic and enthusiastic personality. I play trumpet for the Northwestern University Marching Band (more commonly known as NUMB) and enjoy all different kinds of music (Important to note: I am a big GLEE fan- despite its lack of plot, I always enjoy the songs they incorporate in the shows). In addition to my affinity for the arts, I love sports and will often be caught browsing through ESPN.com or Sports Illustrated when I should be studying. For any additional information on CRC, Northwestern, me or a forecast of the upcoming college football or basketball season, feel free to shoot me an email, Facebook message or Tweet (I know what you’re thinking…don’t judge…eh, go ahead).
Vice President Madison Berry (contact) Duties: keeps track of points,
administers the yearly housing lottery, coordinates housing
assignments
for returning residents. When I was young I wanted to grow up to be a dolphin. Since Northwestern doesn't offer that as a major, I opted for the next obvious choice: Radio/TV/Film. I have a peculiar fondness for teenage drama, time travel, magic, Britain, monsters, unrequited romance, and singing. Thus, I enjoy filling the halls of CRC with the sounds of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Doctor Who, and The X-Files while attempting to convert everyone into a fan. My love-hate relationship with horror films borders on masochistic, and I love watching them with people who don't mind my incessant screaming and pointing out of the obvious. When not watching TV, I'm usually dreaming about being a ginger or using excessive parentheses. On the rare occasions I step out into the light of day I can be found wishing I was riding a horse. Most of my free time is spent online or wandering the dorm in search of procrastination and naps. If you want to chat about anything at all, from CRC traditions to who is the best Doctor Who companion (there may or may not be a correct answer), please feel free to hunt me down!
Treasurer Robbie Stern (contact) Duties: maintains CRC's monetary accounts, receives and disburses funds at the direction of the Executive Board, serves as a liason to the SOFO office. Before
creation of time or space, there existed a singularity. This
singularity was infinite, yet nothing. Massive, yet massless. One day
(theoretically speaking, since time and thus days did not exist yet),
sparked by only curiosity, this singularity began to transform. Forms
that resembled legs grew from the posterior, and arm-like shapes
emerged from the anterior. Ovular shapes opened in what now looked like
a head, and the former-singularity gained sight. Fingers grew out of
the extensions from the body and it could now feel. It developed an
intellect, and began to feel emotions and accumulate knowledge. Its
features became more and more defined over billions of years. 19 years
ago the used-to-be-a-singularity appeared on earth, in a place known as
“Jacksonville, Florida.” Confused by this unique being, the earthlings,
as earthlings always do, gave it a name. “Robbie Stern.” They also
endowed this Robbie Stern with a purpose. “To be the Treasurer of CRC.”
The earthlings commanded him to be an RTVF major, make films for Studio
22, NSTV, and himself, play the saxophone in the NU community jazz
ensemble, do karate, take photos, work on the Northwestern News
Network, and be treasurer for NUWFA. From that day forth, the being
known as Robbie Stern has followed his charged duty without hesitation,
as he will continue to do until the end of this world.
Co-Secretary JJ Bersch (contact) Duties: records the minutes at exec and All College Meetings, disburses the minutes. Hi.
My name is JJ Bersch and I am one of your secretaries. My interests
include fun things and good times. The music I like to listen to is the
kind that you use your ears to listen to it with. I am a movies and TV
major and therefore I like some movies and TVs but my favorite movies
are the ones with dinosaurs and/or girls and my favorite TVs are the
ones with talking animals and/or guns. As a young adult, I am on the
internet quite a bit. Sometimes I like to tweet things under the
username @CHETHAZE and other times I use the handle of @JJBersch. Both
of them are pretty okay good so if you want to follow them you can go
ahead like I won't make you or anything but you should probably do it.
I am also on tumblr. My tumblr is http://thedailywh.at/ and I use it to
blog about things I think are deplorable and sad and urgently
important. Anyway, I am looking forward to being one of your
secretaries and as you have probably told by now, I am very well at
writing so I hope you enjoy my writing and look forward to reading all
of my writings as I am your secretary that makes the note writings that
you will be reading.
Co-Secretary Tyler Fisher (contact)
I'm Tyler, one of your co-secretaries. I spend most of my time judging
people solely on their musical taste. I'm a music major (the only one
in CRC at the moment), as well as a journalism major, which means I
should spend most of my time doing schoolwork. Like every other college
student, though, I don't. I'm also the oldest person in the world; I
turned 20 in my freshman year. That's a much longer story, but it's a
happy story, so come find me and I'll tell you all about it! Otherwise,
I'm the interactive editor for North by Northwestern (by the time
anyone reads this bio, that position will probably change), I play
euphonium in marching band and basketball band(what's a euphonium!?),
and I compose music for some student films. I know you film majors are
out there, so if you ever need some original music (read: plagiarism)
for your feature-length masterpiece, I'm open to do it! Co-Academic Connor Sears (contact) Duties: organize and publicize firesides and other academic activities, recruit and dismiss faculty associates in conjunction with the Master and the Executive Board, supplement the relationship between faculty associates.Hey everybody, I'm Connor. I'm one of your Academic Co-chairs. My job is to make sure you actually learn something at college. Some interesting facts about me: I'm from Knoxville, TN (the same Knoxville from the movie Sex Drive and that one Simpsons episode). I'm a journalism student. I'm a huge Star Wars nerd -- I have, in my possession, one (1) Darth Maul flash drive, one (1) Obi-Wan Kenobi figurine, one (1) Episode IV clock, two (2) Sith-red lightsabers, and one (1) full-sized Obi-Wan Kenobi robe . I love video games. In fact, every time you see me, I'll probably be in the position seen in my picture. I am open to any and all Gameboy or DS challenges involving Pokemon. Fair warning: I will win.
Co-Academic Aliza Weinberger (contact) Hi everybody! I'm Aliza (pronounced Ah-lee-zah), and I'm co-academic chair. I'm an RTVF/English double major from Cincinnati, Ohio, and since I'm going abroad to London in the fall, I'm also the invisible exec member. Invisibility is just one of the many superpowers I have as the reigning Queen of the Geeks. As a proud member of the Ravenclaw house, I'm totally qualified to be half an Academic Chair at the illustrious CRC. I was previously a Radiothon chair, so I'm well-versed in all things epic and awesome. My turn-ons include Superman, comic books, Jedi, Whovians, Time Lords, time machines, Dumbledore's Army, The Order of the Phoenix, Weasleys, Starkids, Browncoats, the Scooby gang, and Superman. My turn-offs include Lex Luthor, Sith, Death Eaters, people that cancel good TV shows, and people that call themselves Harry Potter fans but have never read the books. I'm probably the only sorority girl who can name all 4 Flashes and all 5 canonical Robins. Feel free to Facebook or e-mail me anytime to chat about whatever gets your geek flag flying. Except Pokemon, that's Connor's territory. May the odds ever be in your favor!
Co-Philanthropy Chair Christina Cala (contact)
Duties: organize and/or publicize philanthropic activities and opportunities both on and off campus, as well as assemble one major CRC philanthropy event per quarter. Hey! I'm Christina Cala, one of your philanthropeeps. I love CRC and if you can bring yourself to brave 3 flights of stairs, I can often be found in 3 blue, working ( or pretending to work while looking at food and fashion blogs). I was super involved in phil stuff in high school ( which was in sunny Southern California where i grew up), and have gotten involved at NU as well with SEED and NCDC. I'm a journalism freshman and a spanish double major, though I'm hoping to learn some french as well. Fun fact, I'm Colombian and love to cook... it's the way to my heart really along with oatmeal chocolate chip cookies :) I also like red velvet cupcakes and chai lattes, in case you were wondering. I enjoy long walks on the beach and picnics in the park Really though, if you ever want to listen to some folk music or rap or anything in between or need have any questions, just hit me up! I'll be in 3 blue.
Co-Philanthropy Chair Megan Joyce (contact) Hi
Everyone! My name is Megan Joyce and I am from New Canaan, Connecticut
(aka where Glenn Beck currently resides) but I guess I consider myself
to be a California girl at heart, since my life goal is to retire to
Monterrey, CA with the sea otters. I am a journalism and political
science double major, though I secretly aspire to be the next Kelly
Ripa with your prez Fritz as my Regis…I am not so secretly in love with
my dog, Buddy, who is the most important member of my family (followed
closely by my bird, Beyonce). My other loves include being a band geek
at Northwestern (GO CATS!) in both our marching and basketball bands,
Tina Fey, Ireland, animals, the color blue, the beach, pancakes,
Sillybandz, and in general being a five-year-old trapped in a
teenager’s body. Philanthropy is also really important to me, and since
coming here, I have been a Jumpstart volunteer, worked with high school
students in Chicago, participated in Dance Marathon, and other related
activities, so I would love to answer any of your questions/help you
get those philanthropy points! ☺ 1, 2 ready, break!
Duties:
general upkeep and supervision of the College’s equipment and equipment
rooms, responsible for training enfranchised members to use the
equipment in the equipment rooms, scheduling and hosting Recogs;
organizes funding for any in-dorm productions such as movies or plays.
***Oh! Hello! Didn't see you there! How are you? I'm am well, thank you. My name is Jon. And I am 60% of the Equipment Chairs. The other 40% is also Jon, but he is smaller, that is why his percentage is smaller. These are the jokes, kids. I am over 300 feet tall and very nice. I also speak, shout, sing, and sweat very loud. Hearing protection is recommended. I am majoring in movies because I like movies and I don't like steady employment. Maybe I will make a movie with you! Will that be fun? Yes, it will be fun. If you have any questions about how to use all those electronic whatchamajiggies that populate this lovely dorm, come see me or Small Jon. I will do my best to help you. Barring that, I will give you a hug or a cookie or both. Now go do something more fun on the internet.
Hello! I'm Jon. You can find me either inside Tall Jon's coat or maybe just sorta hanging out on his Tall Legs while he goes about shopping, sleeping, laundry, etc. Once a year, in a small town in Pennsylvania on a cold February morning, the townspeople gather to see me emerge from Tall Jon's clothes. Legend has it, if I see my shadow, I will put off writing my bio for another six weeks. Anyway. I was born with red hair disease, and accordingly, I have no friends. My interests include Peggle and Das Racist. Can't think of anything else for now. I'm a Radio/TV/Film major, and someday I'll have an even better idea of what a stupid idea that was. Having dressed as a woman twice this year for CRC, not to mention dozens of time alone in the middle of the night, I've been told I make a hot lady. Welp. I look forward to meeting you, forgetting your name, and avoiding you because I'm embarrassed of it. LOVE, JON
Duties: The Social Chairs (this year's SUNSHINE SOCIAL), are responsible for planning a social event for the College at least once every two weeks, with a minimum of four per quarter; and planning one major social event per quarter. Hey there! I’m Anna Frank, and I guess I’m in Medill but I’m also majoring in International Studies, which is a very, very useful major if you must know. I’m from Michigan, kind of near Detroit, which as anyone can tell you is the best city in the country. Sort of. My favorite part of CRC is probably its intellectual appreciation of cinematic excellence…examples include Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. I think that probably speaks for itself. My hobbies include inhabiting the CRC table at Hinman for days (EXAGGERATION) at a time, trying to squeeze Lord of the Rings into any conversation, abusing my child? and making use of either of my only two facial expressions. On the seldom occasions I venture out of CRC, I enjoy marching band, playing jazzy saxophone and writing for North by Northwestern. Basically, expect delicious food from me and my super amazing awesome Social Chair teammates Tim, Sage and Alejandro.
Social Chair Tim Reilly (contact) Hey everyone, I am Tim Reilly and I am 1/4 of the Social Chairs. I am a film and economics major, and I am from one of the greatest cities in the world, Pittsburgh. When I am not filming or fixing the financial crisis, I like to partake in some Ultimate Frisbee, taking pics for NBN, obsessively starting a new TV series on Netflix, or just enjoying life here in Chicago,. I also constantly watch Pittsburgh sports (minus the Pirates, because come on no one can support them) and recently started to learn new recipes so maybe I can cook something good for you one of these days. Come find me around the CRC, you'll probably notice the beard.
Social Chair Sage Schroeder (contact) Yo dawgs. I am Sage Schroeder, and I'm a quarter of this years Social, the Rustbelt Social, so named because we all come from this place - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust_Belt. Peeps from economically depressed regions make the best Social Charis, ya know. I am from the great state of Ohio (best in the nation, yo), and live in the middle of God-damned nowhere. My interests range from OSU football to Northwestern football. And Ohio, because it's the best effing state. I currently have no major, but am looking at Astrophysics. Uhh... nothing else to add. Also, if I insult you, it's an endearment. It's a good thing! It means I like you! Woooo! Uhh... the end. Social Chair Alejandro Valdivieso (contact) TBA Special Chairs (Fall 2010-Spring 2011) CRC has tons of special chairs who make our dorm cooler with their highly specialized efforts. Check them out:
